Open Call for Artists, Musicians and Poets
by Jen Heins
Jan 18, 2012

We are well in the planning phases of Art on the Prairie 2012. This year's event will be November 10 and November 11. Our venues include Hotel Pattee, Town Craft, Carnegie Library, Perry Public Library, Security Bank Building, DMACC Vankirk Campus, and Hiawatha Station. It will be another outstanding year of arts and culture in Perry, Iowa.

Because of the growing interest we are opening the application process for Iowa artists, musicians and poets wanting to participate in Art on the Prairie 2012. Applications will be accepted until February 29th. We will turn the submissions over to our selection committee during the month of March. Formal invitations will be sent to the selected artists, musicians and poets the beginning of April.

We are looking forward to seeing all the great Iowan talent.

Applications can be found at www.artontheprairie.org/applications

Congratulations to Cindee Moyer. She is Art on the Prairie's 2012 People's Choice Winner.

Cindee Moyer is a doll artist who creates one-of-a-kind figurative art drawing from a love of the doll. When garnering ideas and developing a piece, she is inspired by color, fashion, music and paintings.

A native of Ankeny, Iowa, Cindee studied art at Drake University in Des Moines, took classes at the Des Moines Art Center and workshops from Dutch doll artists Ankie Daanen and Marlaine Verhelst; Swiss doll artist and sculptor Olga Roehl; Tennessee doll artist Akira Blount and Russian doll artist Natasha Lopusova-Tomskaya.

Her primary medium is cloth although in the past year she has begun sculpting in paper clay as well. Pieces from both mediums will be on display. She also incorporates mixed media, using found objects as well as creating her own embellishments and accessories so that each piece is unique.

Cindee also designs a line of doll patterns as well as teaches online and across the country at private workshops.

Our thanks to the Friends of the Perry Public Library and the Perry Public Library staff for their generous support of Art on the Prairie. Not only have they assisted with the grant-writing process, but they have provided two days of creative fun for youth during the festival. Mary Murphy, the library's director, and her staff have lined-up an incredible schedule of both art and storytelling activities. See the "Youth Activities" page of our website to see the amazing opportunities provided for youth during the festival.
