As a folk artist for the last 22 years i work with recycled barnboard and tin. l create nostalgic birdhouses replicating barns and other common country structures of Iowa from the past. During the past years my creations have been featured in several media including KCCI's Steve Karlin Covers Central Iowa, Midwest Living Magazine, Country Home Magazine and the Home and Garden Section of the Chicago Tribune. Along with my Birdhouse I have ventured into wooden jewelry and tableware sculptures and cigar box guitars.
Iowa born and raised on the farm is my inspiration behind the nostalgic barn and other country buildings of yesteryear. |
Larry Cook | De Soto, WI

Larry Cook is a self-taught wood craftsman. His creations include both classic jewelry boxes and also unique, original designs. His collection includes boxes with hidden compartments, whimsical characters, and puzzle boxes. All are made from tough hardwoods, with brass pin hinges and a clear oil / paste wax finish. These boxes can hold coins, rings, baby teeth, gold nuggets, etc. All items are heirloom quality, made to exacting detail. A native Iowan, raised in Marshalltown, and now retired from a career at the City of Des Moines as an electronic technician, he now lives in SW Wisconsin with his wife. Larry has exhibited wood creations at the Iowa State Fair, where he was awarded over a dozen first place ribbons over the years. All designs original. All surfaces sanded to 0000 steel wool. All woods selected for their color. All work done by applicant. Business started in 1979 after working at the Amana Furniture shop in Iowa for 5 yrs. When not building commissioned furniture or abstract wall sculptures, I am making speculation pieces to market through my website and at various juried art fairs in the Midwest.
