My work is photography of predominantly Iowa birds, plants, animals and landscapes. I've been interested in nature and photography for many years, beginning with film and moving to digital. Looking through the lens and composing an interesting image forces me to be more aware of what is going on around me, enhancing the outdoor experience. The image is a bonus which allows me to share a special moment with others. I enjoy capturing uncommon views of common subjects with most of my camera-time at Iowa's state and county parks, urban areas or in my home gardens. My photography has appeared in a number of recent exhibits and shows, including Octagon Center for the Arts, Neal Smith Wildlife Refuge, Ankeny Art Center, Des Moines Public Library, and Ding Darling National Wildlife Refuge (Florida)

Growing up in Czech Republic, I hadn't seen many fireflies (lightning bugs) before. It was very magical when I saw thousands of them in Iowa for the first time. Fireflies are for me the light in the dark; they show me the path to joy, hope, healing and connection with nature. Through my photography I wish to share their magical beauty with others.

EarthLaughs Photography

EarthLaughs came about because I was simply unable to put my camera down when I worked in my flower garden. To me, flowers are endlessly fascinating works of art . My intention is to capture and share the beauty, fascination, and joy that I find in nature. I print my photos in various sizes on archival fine art paper, but my most popular items are my "photo blocks" - small photos printed on canvas and mounted on wood blocks. Mary Howell-Williams lives among the flowers in Des Moines, Iowa. She has an Associates degree in Photography, and works as the fine art specialist at Beeline and Blue in Des Moines. Her work has been published in various magazines and books, and is for sell at local garden and art fairs throughout the year.
