Originally from Marshalltown, Iowa, Larry moved to Des Moines after college and spent 7 years repairing business computers, followed by 30 years repairing traffic signals. The woodworking bug resulted from an old house in need of repairs, followed by assorted pieces of furniture. For the past 25 years he has been making jewelry and keepsake boxes. Larry exhibited at the Iowa State Fair resulting in 15 first place ribbons and two Best of Shows over the course of 15 years. An unusual small table earned Larry a Best of Show at the 2003 Greater Des Moines Exhibited art show. In 2023 Larry was awarded the People's Choice Award at Art on the Prairie. Larry has been a yearly participant at the Art on the Prairie art show since 2012.

A native Iowan and resident of Urbandale, I have had a lifelong interest in a variety of artistic endeavors. Most recently, I have been drawn to the natural beauty of wood, especially when it comes highlighting imperfections and/or unique patterns and grains that can be found in many wood species.
I create decorative pieces of art utilizing a variety of wood species, both native to Iowa and from around the world. Wherever possible, I like to utilize live edge wood and/or pieces that have clear imperfections. In many cases, this makes my pieces truly one-of-a-kind works of art. |
