2022 Festival Features:

Featured Artist: Chad Elliott
Exhibit at The Cellar at La Poste | 1219 Warford St

Chad Elliot strives to create music and art that inspires, uplifts and moves his audience emotionally by relating life experiences through dream-like imagery. In his recent artworks he uses multiple techniques inspired by nature to create a diverse and colorful exhibition of acrylic paintings.

Chad is a graduate of Graceland University in Lamoni, IA with a bachelor of arts in ceramics and has since collected graduate credits from the University of Montana in Missoula, MT. Early in his career, he was recognized for his artistic ability by being chosen as the “Best of Show” at the Iowa Student Artists Exhibit in 1995.

Lauded as “Iowa’s Renaissance Man” by Culture Buzz Magazine, Chad has penned more than 2,000 songs in his career while also cultivating his skills as a painter, muralist, sculptor, illustrator and author, creating work at Elliott Art Studio in his home in Lamoni, IA.

Girls Rock! DSM at Perry Public Library | 1101 Willis Ave
Saturday | 1pm & 2:30pm Performances
Saturday | 1:30pm GR!LIVE featuring Gloria Estefan & Songwriting Workshop

Picture

GR!LIVE is a new series from GRDSM that recovers marginalized narratives & the heritage of women in music, reclaims herstories, and recapitulates music genres for a new generation's liberation of expression; this consists of a concert by local artists, herstory of trailblazing, women+ musicians, and a "how-to" play a specific style of music, taught by showcased artists.
In this specific workshop, we will learn about the music genre of Latin Pop, the herstory of Gloria Estefan, and the music of the local artist, Lani. Participants will engage in hands-on learning with auxiliary percussion, educational handouts, and an opportunity to participate in a songwriting jam session. We invite everyone of all ages, and experience levels to join in on the fun.

Lani is a Colombian-American singer/songwriter and self-taught keyboardist based in Des Moines, Iowa. Always at her disposal have been her catchy melodies and lyrical hooks, documenting the stories of her soul, along with a delicate yet powerful voice that has the power to touch every heart it comes across. There is beauty in love and an equal amount of beauty in pain, and through her songwriting and her performances, Lani captures what it means to be beautifully vulnerable.

Storytime with Iowa Author Megan Cline
10:30am Saturday & Sunday at Perry Public Library | 1101 Willis Ave

Picture
A lifelong lover of books, and a member of her local library board of trustees for over fifteen years, Megan Cline has been inspired to create this series of children’s stories by her own insatiably curious son, whose questions and wonderings about the world around him always prodded her to think about things that had never even occurred to her. Megan currently lives in Iowa with her husband, son and Rey Rey the dog.

Fun for all ages, enjoy "Winston Winks" and other favorites by Iowa Author Megan Cline with storytimes during the festival!

"...share the magic and meaning of one small town set on the Prairie, but connected to the world."
